Basics Manual – For use in the training and when working with Internet beginners, this manual illustrates basic computer concepts for the people who are describing them and the people who are learning them.
Tips for Working with Adult Learners - General educational principles for working with adult learners. The ultimate goal is to help beginners feel comfortable learning more on their own.
Checklist for Assessing Digital Literacy Skills – Outlines of elements of basic digital literacy to help evaluate the appropriate starting point for working with beginners.
Glossary of Computer and Internet Terms - For people who use computers on a daily basis, there's a familiar vocabulary of Internet terms that doesn't always reflect actual meanings. A browser isn't defined as "Firefox" and "Google it" isn't really a verb. This reference helps beginners decipher terms and instructors improve their accuracy.
Digital Literacy and Accessibility – This handout introduces steps for ensuring that challenges in vision, hearing, motor skills, cognition don't get in the way of computer learning.
Instructors may also want to include sample handouts designed to be used with Internet beginners to highlight key concepts. Handouts from iConnect are found here.
All of the iConnect materials were designed by the Community College of Vermont for the purpose of sharing. Users should feel free to make changes to match their needs. If you want to know more about use of these materials, please read the Creative Commons information below.
